About the Countach

Unveiled in 1974, the Lamborghini Countach was the first modern supercar. It redefined automotive design with its radical aesthetics and groundbreaking technology.

The Lamborghini Miura was the first mid-engined supercar, but its successor, the Countach, was where they got it right. Lamborghini engineers reoriented the engine to be longitudinal (facing front to back), simplifying the mechanicals and improving performance.

The Countach became the car on a poster in every young automotive enthusiast’s bedroom because of its never-before-seen wedge shape designed by Marcelo Gandini.

We identify Lamborghini models with that wedge shape to this day; the influence of the Countach on the supercar market cannot be understated.

The Countach was replaced by the Diablo.
